Building A Practice On Purpose Series Part #3: The Power of Vision

Author: Brad Swift

In our last 2 installments of this series, we explored the foundation of building a practice on purpose -- knowing with crystal clarity your true purpose.

Let's assume that you've done the work to clarify your purpose. How do you connect your purpose to your practice? By creating a vision statement for your practice that incorporates your life purpose.

This is often an expansion process -- expanding your life purpose to encompass more than just your own life. Remember, from the Life On Purpose Perspective a life purpose is the context, vessel or container into which you pour your life. And when viewed in this way, your life purpose becomes the primary shaping force of your life. In other words, your life purpose begins to shape your thoughts, decisions, choices, and your actions.

By creating a vision statement that incorporates your life purpose, you are expanding the reach and influence to include not just yourself but your entire business, so your vision statement becomes the context that shapes your business.

For example, the vision of Life On Purpose Institute is: A World On Purpose -- People living lives of:

* Purposeful, passionate and playful service,
* Mindful abundance balanced with simplicity, and
* Spiritual serenity.

Which is my life purpose statement expanded out to how I intend to affect change in the world as I live true to my purpose. PracticeOnPurpose.com, (http://www.practiceonpurpose.com/index.php?page=1) as a subsidiary of Life On Purpose Institute, allows me to express my life purpose by assisting other health care professionals to build their practice on purpose.

Thus, as you create a vision statement that's based on your life purpose, you're building a bridge between your life purpose and your practice. And in this way your professional practice becomes one of the major ways you can express your life purpose, which results in a much deeper sense of satisfaction and fulfillment in this significant part of your life. It's a key ingredient of building a practice on purpose, so "don't leave home without it."
