Define your Target Market I have quick question for you? Let's just say you are now the owner of a company that sells LawnmowersDo you believe you would make money from an advertising campaign that targets High-Rise Apartments owners? Yes or No? My guess would be No Its often said that the best way to hit a business target is to firstly determine what your end result or outcome is so that you can then work back from there and create a plan of attack. The same thing can be said for determining who your target market or ideal customer would be. If you don't know who your main target market is then how are you going to put in place a strategy to get their business? Ok heres list some things you will want to consider when defining your target market. 1. Age How old is your target market? Define the age group make sure you have a mental picture of them in your head. 2. Sex Male or Female, this can be very powerful and will help you write ads that really talk to the target market you are aiming at! 3. Income How much do they have to spend? This is really important when looking at issues such as quality and price points. 4. Where do they live Just like the High-rise Apartment example this point is very important. Can you see why? One of my target markets is small business owners with advertising budgets under $10,000 per annum that operate their business from the outer city limits. How did I determine what my target market was? Simply from the e 4 points above: 1. Age 25 to 45 2. Sex - I target both Male and Female but I run separate ads for each sex. 3. Income I target small business with advertising budgets under $10,000 per annum. 4. Where do they live I target business owners who have there offices on the outer city limits where I know the rents are cheaper! Can you begin to see the power in knowing your target market? |
