The Value of Your Values

Author: Lynn Bradley

All adults have a set of values built into their conscience. Each of us have beliefs of what we should and should not do. Schools and colleges do not teach value. Our code of behavior is usually ingrained into our character by association with parents and churches. Those who observe wisely learn values from lifes experiences.

People who violate their value system will nullify the conscience as a guide for their life, and will escalate unsavory acts that get them deeper into trouble. If one does not permit their value system to control their life, someone else will have to. Some had no training of what is right or wrong to guide them. This is the reason prisons are overflowing.

It is important to know the technicalities of your occupation, and general knowledge provided in schools. This, however, is not what is built into our character. Truth, honesty, integrity, and other moral qualities are what constitutes the value system of the conscience. Unfortunately, not all parents were taught true values and cannot teach their children what they never received.

Most schools teach evolution as fact rather than the theory that it is. This study teaches the survival of the fittest, so one might get the idea that getting to the top of the ladder at the expense of others would be the thing to do.

Having the belief of being successful at any cost will come back to haunt you. There are things more important than success. Having moral character, being one that can be depended on, and having integrity is vital for being respected by others as well as having success.

The Bible is the only standard for moral conduct and manner of life. Men cant agree on a standard. Some believe that we must go along with times. They believe that whatever the majority practices should be the standard. What is accepted is often dictated by the circumstances. It is argued that there is no such thing as right or wrong, just different opinions. This is because it is not in man to direct his own steps (JER10:23). That ability is not built into humankind.

Everyone agrees that if there were no standards for weights, measurements, or anything else, there would be no basis for judging anything. You could not trust food, beverages or medicine that you purchased, or ever the water from your faucet. Playing baseball would be a madhouse, if one empire counted three strikes as out and the next on permitted ten. Life would be a nightmare!

We can regulate our own devices but moral standards were set up by our maker. Violating them will jeopardize your integrity and have eternal consequences. The devil tempts us to break the standards. Jesus said, If you hold to my teachings, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. Men think they are free when they do their own thing, but they are unconsciously obeying their evil master.

Freedom from Satans bondage cannot be obtained without knowing and complying with the truth. If your parents could not give you moral training because they had none, dont blame them, they probably did the best they knew how. The Bible contains the moral values everyone needs. If you are unfamiliar with Scripture, enroll in a Bible study class.

This article is about the value system that controls your life. It is based on what you have been taught. It may be published if the resource box is left intact.
